About Us

Founded in September 2025, the Sustain-a-Station Network is a youth-led initiative designed to address the everyday challenges faced by frontline workers in waste management and sanitation across Indian cities. Keeping the complex socioeconomic landscape of India in mind, our work prioritises a multi-pronged approach that foregrounds the voices of frontline workers – we aim to listen first, with care and empathy, and then respond through meaningful interventions. 

Our efforts include field surveys with non-governmental organisations in Mumbai to closely understand the occupational hazards and economic and daily struggles of frontline workers. We also run online crowdfunding campaigns to raise funds to strengthen grassroots advocacy and build material recovery facilities – equipped with modern protective equipment – in cities, starting with Mumbai. 

In India, where deep-seated caste-based hierarchies shape the social fabric, our approach to advocacy understands waste management as not merely a technological or economic concern – but also as a social and political problem. Along with raising awareness on the fundamentals of sustainable waste management, we genuinely hope to bring together passionate citizens to amplify the goal of empowering our frontline workers with safe, secure, fair, and dignified working conditions.
